New Zealand CV

Tertiary education requires certain academic qualifications and work experience. A detailed resume and portfolio often give a student an edge over the others while applying for a college in New Zealand.

Portfolio and Resume a Must for Studying in a College in New Zealand

In most cases, students applying for colleges in New Zealand do not have to appear for an interview. If an admission process includes an interview, it would be notified to the student earlier. What is essential is to create an attractive resume. If the resume is handed over with a detailed portfolio of the work done or projects attended by the student it would be even more appealing.

Let’s check some of the essential aspects of writing a resume and creating a portfolio while applying to a college in New Zealand.

Resume
A detailed resume which mentions the entire career profile of the student should be created for applying for tertiary education. Some essential aspects that must be included in a resume are:

The certifications should be placed one after the other chronologically.
Details of the work experience, project works, hands-on workshops.
Objectives of the internships (if any).
Languages known to the student and proficiency in the same. A special mention on English language for international students coming from non-English speaking countries would do the best. IELTS or TOEFL marks along with courses done (if any) to improve the language must be mentioned as well.
Personal Statement which would specify why the student wants to study a particular course in a college in New Zealand. It should also entail the education history of the student and how the tertiary education would propel the career of the student in a better way.

Portfolio
Artwork, study related to designs and architecture, and write-ups often require portfolio which entails details of the work done by the student during his or her secondary education. Practical work has a lot of impact during admission to a college, especially if the subject deals with creative work. When creating an apt portfolio, you must include:

Work that highlights your competency in the area.
Development work to showcases an interest and talent in the area.
Innovative work or unusual work where improvement or innovation has been highlighted.
Rough work, work done during leisure, or amateur work done during early years.

…And, work should be neatly kept in a folder, chronologically sorted with lists of content. Often, a CD may be used in case an international student staying outside New Zealand wants to include a portfolio while applying for colleges in the foreign country. Sometimes slides or photographs are good enough. However, make sure you know how your portfolio needs to be created for a particular college.

Don’t forget to do your homework before creating your portfolio. You should be well aware of what you have given in the portfolio. All work need not be placed in a portfolio but only those which mark a difference in your learning and creativity.

AA Education helps students on various documents that would be required for applying to a college. Portfolio making is one such part. However, the student must first choose the course they want to study.
