Study at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT)

Overview

The NMIT is set amid the spectacular and diverse landscapes of the top end of New Zealand’s South Island, centred in the towns of Nelson and Blenheim. The region is characterised by a mix of landscapes from harbours and coastal beaches through agricultural landholdings to mountain vistas with several national parks set among it all. The economy is just as diverse encompassing agriculture and aquaculture to high tech and engineering enterprises.

NMIT was founded in 1905 and continues to offer first class certificate, diploma and degree courses as well as short courses. Students come from over 30 countries to join the small and friendly student body.

Campus

Nelson campus is located a short walk from Nelson CBD and a short drive from the attractions of the surrounding region. Facilities include the English Language School, student accommodation, student support, computer suites and librarary, and recreational facilities.

Marlborough campus is located in the commercial heart of the city of Blenheim and a short drive from the attractions of the surrounding region, Facilities include library and computer suites, recreational facilities, student support, the Marlborough Wine Research Centre for Excellence, and easy access to RNZAF Base Woodbourne for aircraft engineering students.

Courses

NMIT offers degree, diploma and certificate courses as well as short courses, in the following areas: Agriculture, Health, Animals, Horticulture, Arts & Media, Hospitality, Aviation, Maori Language, Beauty, Marine, Business & Office Administration, Music, Business Management, Nursing, Computing & Information Technology, Conservation, Quality Assurance, Cookery, Retail, Counselling & Social Work, and many others.

English language courses include IELTS and Cambridge exam prep, short course and part time options, group study programmes, General English, Academic English, and summer school programmes.

Enrolment

Semester cutoffs for applications are Semester 1: late December and Semester 2: late May. English language course cutoffs vary so please consult an AA Education Network counsellors for more precise information.
